The Jorge André Swieca School on Quantum Optics and Nonlinear Optics is a scientific event sponsored by the Brazilian Physical Society. The School has been organized by Optics' groups from different Universities in Brazil. The school has been hosted before by USP-SCar (São Carlos, 1987 and 1989), UFPE (Recife, 1992), Unicamp (Campinas, 1994), UFRJ (Rio de Janeiro, 1996), USP-SCar (São Carlos, 1998), UFPE (Recife, 2000), Unicamp (Campinas, 2002), and UFMG (Belo Horizonte, 2004). The tenth issue of the School will be hosted by UFAL, Maceió.

The School is mainly directed to graduate students of Physics or Electrical Engineering with backgrounds in optics and lasers. Pos-doctors and young researchers are also accepted. Senior undergraduate students can also apply to participate of the School.

Lecturers will be given by well known researchers from Brazil and abroad. The School comprises course lectures covering fundamentals and specialized research topics, as well as applications. The lecturers are asked to make their presentations self contained and didactic. The goal of the school is two fold: update researchers and educate students on recent developments in the field of Optics. The School lasts for two weeks.
